Archiving and Deleting Pages and Files

The Head Start Information and Communication Center (HSICC) coordinates an annual process of revising and updating content on the Early Childhood Learning and Knowledge Center (ECLKC) pages and files, following the guidance established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Administration for Children and Families. ECLKC pages and files are evaluated to determine whether they are:

  • Content to be retained: No action is necessary for content of value that is fully current.
  • Content to be retained and revised: This content should be updated as soon as possible so as to maintain its trustworthiness. The bottom of the page indicates the last update and all revisions are kept in the back end.
  • Content to be deleted: Outdated or inaccurate content that is no longer being maintained and is of no value to the public should be removed from the site. Deleted content can be saved off-line in Box, but it will be deleted from the website.
  • Content to be archived: Outdated content that is no longer being maintained, but which needs to be available to the public for reference or to provide historic context, or which is required by law or mandate to be publicly available, must be archived in the ECLKC Archive.

How to Request Archiving or Deletion of Pages

The Office of Head Start (OHS) and national centers can request to archive or delete pages at any time. Each request can be submitted via the Forecasting & Submission of Products Form, either standalone or as part of a submission that replaces the page or pages to be archived or deleted.

When submitting the Products Form, you must attach an Excel spreadsheet with a list of referral pages that must be modified. Create the list using the Quality Assurance/Inventory/Links page of SiteImprove (requires previous login to Siteimprove). Type each page’s URL into the search bar at right. Export each list of referral pages to Excel and, in the Products Form, describe any modifications that must be made to avoid broken links (e.g., delete the referral, modify the referral to a different page) .

How to Request Archiving or Deletion of Files

To request archiving or deletion of files, follow the same process as for pages. Files can be archived with the landing page or in Box. Use Siteimprove to obtain referral pages for file URLs, as described above.

Scheduled Archiving or Deletion of Pages

Content might be scheduled to be archived or deleted periodically, according to the following schedule:

  • Blogs: When information is seasonal or outdated or when the blog is older than 2 years.
