FEM Program Planning for Directors and Managers

Program directors and managers, as well as regional staff, are often focused on the big picture of family economic mobility work in their program. Head Start programs engage in a five-year planning process, developing program goals and objectives to guide their work and describe their vision for the future. Programs may create a program-wide goal of improving the financial well-being of families, and can set objectives to support this goal. See Achieving program goals, 45 CFR §1302.102 for more information on the requirements for program goals.

In this section, you’ll find information and tools to better understand the role of family economic mobility (FEM) in Head Start programs. Use these tools to help you have conversations with your staff about family economic mobility work, and to set programmatic goals:

  • Preparing Staff for Family Economic Mobility Work — Consider techniques for managers and directors to equip staff to partner with families on FEM goals.
